President: Anthony Keyes

My name is Anthony Keyes, and I am a Senior Chemistry major at Jackson State University. I moved around my whole life, and don't call any one place home. For now, I call JSU my home, and I have constantly tried to make it a better place. With the help of all the members of the EMBER program, I plan on doing just that. I want to leave a legacy behind that inspires a multitude of students to seek out their dreams in unbelieveable ways.

Mentor: Kirubel Tadesse

My name is Kirubel Tadesse. I am a senior student in computer engineering at Jackson State University. I am a mentor for CSET and participate in a number of professional organizations, including JSU NASA Swarmathon, W.E.B. Du Bois Honors College, IEEE, and NSBE. Through my past year experiences, I became really interested in robotic related studies and research. I am also a TA (Teacher Assistance) for independent studies on ROS – Robotic Operating System. I plan to pursue a PhD in Robotics.

Mentor: Jala Morrow

I am Jala Morrow, a Senior Mathematics major pursuing a minor in Finance at Jackson State University.  I am involved in several organizations on campus, and I hold positions in a couple of them.  This academic year, I serve as the Treasurer for the Society of Women Engineers.  With Golden Key International Honour Society, I serve as the Council of Student Members representative for Region 7.  I enjoy encouraging involvement in different events and assisting individuals that are seeking to reach their full potential.  The EMBER program has sparked my interest, and I am excited to serve as a mentor to aspiring students.

Mentor: Jamal Keyes

My name is Jamal Keyes and I am a physics major at Jackson State University. I wanted to become a mentor because I have a true passion to positively influence the success of other individuals. I have been involved in research since my freshman year and I am currently working as a research intern at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. After graduation I will pursue enrollment in an MD-PhD program to satisfy my continued interest in medical research and patient care. To prepare for medical school, I had to find the correct path to follow, as well as staying on top of completing those plans. This included being actively involved in research, volunteering, and gaining experience in the hospital. To have access to all of these opportunities, I’ve gone through a great amount of research to find these activities and I have also received a lot of help from my own mentors. Through this program, I plan to help other students start early so that they may be competitive applicants for graduate schools or medicals schools.

Mentor: Stephanie Njemanze

My name is Stephanie Njemanze. I came to JSU as a non-traditional student having previously earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and worked in counseling and student life. I am a senior chemistry pre-med major and also involved in LSMAMP, which is a program that supports undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in research. Having transferred to JSU two years ago, I can understand how challenging the adjustment to a new environment can be. I hope to use my experiences to assist anyone who feels lost to get back on track.

Mentor: Johnathan Hill

My name is Johnathan Hill, and I am a Junior Mathematics major with a minor in Physics. I chose to attend Jackson State University because I knew that the education and faculty at an HBCU would help prepare me for my future. Throughout my matriculation here at JSU, I have gained many mentors and I feel that every student should have one. I chose to be a mentor in the EMBER program because often times students in the STEM fields are lost as freshman and they need guidance from someone other than their instructors/advisors. These students need someone who has been in their predicament and whose ultimate goal is to see them excel beyond their wildest dreams. As a mentor in the EMBER program, I feel that I can help incoming STEM freshmen meet their life goals.

Mentor: Arriana Rieland

My name is Arriana Rieland and I'm currently a Biology pre-med senior. Besides being a mentor for the EMBER program, I'm a peer tutor for the Richard Wright Center, and I play collegiate soccer for JSU. My goal after I graduate from JSU is to attend medical school. I'm currently in the process of applying, so I hope I can be of assistance if anyone has questions. In addition to academics, I wish to help my mentees with any personal problems that might come their way. I have had many mendtors in my life who have been there thourgh the hard times, and I want to be there for everyone I work with.

Mentor: Lufat Rahman

My name is Lufat Rahman, and I grew up in Bangladesh study Computer Engineering at Jackson State University. I worked as a research assistant Northrop Grumman Center for High Performance Computing. I am the president of Net Impact JSU Chapter. I am interested in social business and renewable energy. I also work in organizations such as South Asian Youth Society, International Student Association. I am a Fulbright Scholar of NESA ugrad program, 2012. The reason that I want to be a mentor is so that I can help females in STEM gain confidence and breakout of societies standards, and inspire them to follow their dreams.

Mentor: Chevan Baker

My name is Chevan Baker and I am a senior computer engineering major from Kansas City, MO.  Throughout my collegiate career, I have had the opportunity to experience the many benefits of not only academic responsibility but of networking and professionalism as well. Growing up, business professionalism has always been an important aspect in my life due to my parents instilling many of its core values. I concurrently co-owned and operated my own tech blog startup company during my freshmen year up until my junior year of college.  I am interested in being a mentor in this program to make my best effort to help whenever and however I can. It is my intent to connect with students and share the knowledge that I have had the opportunity to receive, as many of my mentors have done with me.  Upon graduation, I anticipate opening and operating another company.

Mentor: William Kayitare

I am William Kayitare, a senior chemistry major. I have an intricate and miscellaneous background which has made my journey an eventful and rewarding adventure. This was made possible by different people throughout my life who, in spite of their busy schedules, invested their time and resources on me to help me become the best I can be. My motive to be a mentor emanates from my earnest desire to help other do the same. As a mentor, I intend on working with students to maximize their potential, meet their goals and pursue their path with confidence. I believe that the EMBER program is the right platform to accomplish that.

Mentor: Kaelin Gates

My name is Kaelin Gates, and I want to be a mentor because I feel as though I can prevent freshmen from making the same mistakes that I did. Many times, I needed someone who wasn’t a close friend to push me to take college more seriously. Outside of the classroom I was not thinking about the things that were important for my career beyond grades. I want to be that voice of insight to a freshman who needs to hear it and I really believe I can accomplish that in this program.
